Research Interests

Darby’s research focuses on the dynamics of soil carbon and ecosystem-atmosphere exchanges of CO2 across New England’s temperate deciduous forests. Her research employs radiocarbon dating, eddy covariance flux towers, and modeling techniques. Using these methods, she hopes to gain a better understanding of the processes that drive carbon cycling, turnover, and storage in these forests. She is also interested in how these processes change over time, particularly in the context of global change, with the goal of extrapolating her findings to better understand the larger global carbon cycle.
