Winter Climate Change and Snowmobiling (2013)

October 22, 2013
Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest
Woodstock, NH

The goal of this roundtable was to share information among scientists and stakeholders from the region’s snowmobiling community, including leaders of snowmobiling groups, state and federal land managers, and researchers who study the winter recreation economy. The hope is that better understanding of the changes now occurring in the winter landscape can lead to better science, improved management practices, and more informed economic decisions.

Specific objectives included:

  • Inform climate researchers about what kind of information would be helpful to people deeply involved in snowmobiling in the Northern Forest.
  • Share potentially relevant results of decades of climate records and research at Hubbard Brook.
  • Identify ways in which information from the Hubbard Brook Ecosystem Study could be presented to forest users in the future.
  • Brainstorm potential follow-up activities.
