On Tuesday, October 19, 2021, the Hubbard Brook Research Foundation (HBRF) co-hosted The Road to COP26, a live, virtual community conference about the global climate movement and the COP26 meeting in Glasgow, Scotland, this November 1-12.
The Road to COP26 event featured experts invited to speak about the major goals of the UN Conference: adapting vulnerable communities and natural habitats to inevitable climate changes, mobilizing financial resources, and securing global net-zero emissions by mid-century. Attending experts included Hubbard Brook scientists Steve Hamburg and Pamela Templer, as well as HBRF Executive Director Anthea Lavallee.
The event also featured young environmental leaders from high schools and universities in New England, who each raised their concerns and ideas with the invited experts and launched timely conversations about the goals of COP26. They inquired about the incorporation of Indiginous Knowledge into plans for adapting communities and natural habitats to climate change, awareness of multiple perspectives on land use for the production of clean energy, maintaining momentum after COP26, and how small businesses can balance the costs and benefits of climate action, among many other issues.
The Road to COP26 is the latest in a series of events organized by the Hubbard Brook Research Foundation, League of Conservation Voters, Revers Center for Energy at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, and Sustainable Futures Consulting.
